Readers who appreciate photography may enjoy viewing and comparing images of an abandoned church in Grass Valley, Oregon. Above is the original image as it came out of a Canon full-frame camera. No adjustments were made with this photo and as you can see, it is on the dark side.
In the above photograph, I cropped the image to eliminate the telephone polls to the right, brightened the church, and adjusted the vertical line, particularly on the right side of the picture. I also adjusted the clarity and contrast to emphasize the old siding. I used Lightroom to enhance the original image.
The primary change in the above image was to convert it to Black & White. Frequently, old structures exhibit more character when shown in B&W. One does lose the attraction of the red brick chimney in the B&W rendition.
What I did in the image below was to add a frame using Photoshop. Otherwise, it is the same image as number two above.
While I did not use Luminar in this grouping, it is one of my favorite photo enhancing software programs. Luminar Neo is to be out sometime in February.

Looking at this pic makes me wonder about all the Sundays folks sat there with all their prayers.
Years and years of hopes and sorrow and life and death. If only it could speak to us. thanks John

John,
Exactly. I have the same thoughts when I make images of old structures, be they a post office, school, old barn, or an abandoned house. I’m fascinated by these structures that one time were teeming with human life.

Wonderful subject, Lowell, and nice adjustments using Lightroom. I agree with John that it makes one wonder about the history of the people that were in attendance.
