Learning More About Options

Learning More About Options 1

Canada Goose

This post is a follow-up to comments/requests made in response to my recent post on “Protecting Portfolio Performance” (https://itawealth.com/protecting-portfolio-performance/).

Understanding Options can be a difficult subject – but understanding Options is nowhere near as difficult as learning how to make money trading Options – and this is difficult to teach. After discussions with Lowell, I have decided that this blog is not the place to get into this subject. However, for members that have a serious interest, and are prepared to put in some necessary effort, I am prepared to try to help offline through some form of group communication. This might be as straightforward as simple email communication or using a more modern platform like Slack (https://slack.com/). I have no idea how to set up a group within Slack (although I am a member of a couple of Slack groups) but I am prepared to look into the idea.

I don’t want to spend a lot of time on basics – I will just try to guide you to places on the web where you can read this for yourself and I will try to answer any specific questions for clarification. Beyond this we would look at some potential trades – but, be warned, it may be hard going.

In the meantime, members with any interest might want to take a look at a document that I have put together that attempts to answer the questions of “Why Would I Want to Use Options to Invest?” and “What do I need to Know to Trade Options?”. This may give you a feel for whether you want to put in the effort.

The document can be downloaded at

https://www.dropbox.com/s/2p7apjsnmmwuv6c/Why%20Would%20I%20Want%20to%20Use%20Options%20to%20Invest.docx?dl=0

Those interested should let me know within the next week or two.

David

Hi David, Count me in, please. We can start of with on a few trades first, with: a) info on Trade setup, b) strategy, c) win/loss probability, d) exits and their approach, and other key info. I can help setup sample trades in TOS paper money and we can track Performance and Trade log. Regards, Jay R / drjayr2002@com.

    Hey David,

I would like to be involved in Options discussions. I have a decent grasp and have made nice hamburger money selling puts etc, but can always learn more. You also got me using optionsanalysis.com to track price movement etc. One thing about your dropbox doc. I do not think it is the full article as it is unusually brief.

    Thanks,Steve

      Steve,

Invitation on its way – re-try link above – I think I’ve fixed it but let me know if it’s still not working for you.

I am interested in options and how they can be used to protect your portfolio. I wasn’t able to download anything using the dropbox link – I get a note saying the file doesn’t exist.

    Thanks

      Gary,

Invitation on its way to your email Inbox. Can you try the above link again – it’s now working for me – if not it will be available within Slack when you join the group.
