Broad Market Conditions: Pay Attention

February 16, 2017 By Lowell Herr

Broad Market Conditions: Pay Attention 1

Nearly a year ago I wrote an article (Over-Valued Market: Four Critical Indicators) on the over-bought conditions of the market.  Yet here we are today facing an even higher market.  Here is current data on the four indicators discussed on the “Over-Valued Market…” article.  Click on the above article and check the values for yourself.  Keep in mind the values constantly change so the information below is a snapshot.

  • Shiller CAPE Ratio:  Old value = 25.56 and new value = 29.11.
  • Q-Ratio:  Old value = 0.95 and new value = 1.02.
  • Market Capitalization vs. GNP:  Old value = 115.2 and new value = 122.5.
  • Price Regression to S&P 500 Trend:  Continues to increase and is at an all-time high.

What brought this March 2016 article to mind is the Seeking Alpha link I posted in the Forum this morning.

Hi Lowell Thx for the alert regarding these vey risky times.

Unrelated Q: i have been trying for several days to download the Kipling Trance Sp Sheet so i
can enter my data and start playing around with the various parameters. Im a Mac user so i borrowed a PC from a friend but am stuck finding the SS source. I am introducing two friends to ITA and would like to play around with Kipling but can’t make it work. Can you please send me a link. Thx John

      John,

I’ll move to my Windows computer to upload the SS. I try to avoid using Excel on my Mac as Excel is crippled on Macs compared to Windows. If you are not able to make the SS work, and it may not work well on the Mac due to macros, then go to the Forum and use that search engine to find Cundy. There are instructions how to get Excel running properly when using the Kipling. If you can’t find the instructions, I’ll try to find them.

      Lowell

Hi Lowell I apologize for not being clear on my question. I have been down the Mac road and have failed. I now have a PC and am going that route.

Buy question is where to go to download the Kipling Trance SS so can start practicing?

    Thx again John

      John,

The spreadsheet should be in your e-mailbox.
