Last evening General Colin Powell kicked off the Commonfund conference with a brief history of his life and some of his current passions; education and healthcare for all. His speech was to focus on some of the hotspots of the world and he mentioned many that would come to the mind of ITA readers. Think about North Korea, Iraq, Iran, etc.
This mornings sessions focused primarily on private equity, an asset class that is not available to most small investors. Considerable attention was paid to returns over the next 10 years and most attendees agree we can expect something less than 8% per year. About 40% think 8% is a reasonable expectation.
Expectations are high for emerging markets. I hope to report more on this later.
