We frequently hear, and I've written about this as well, that bonds are a poor bet in this environment. Here is a StockCharts graph comparing VTI with AGG over the past five years.  I am using weekly data so the graph does not become too crowded.

You can use this template to compare other securities with VTI.  Replace AGG with a ticker of interest.  If you wish to share this site with another person, you need to use Permalinks.  Otherwise, all changes made to the site will be lost.
