One of the most beautiful trees is the Ponderosa Pine. These are found on east side of the Cascades and Serra Nevada mountains. The reddish bark and the aroma on a hot summer day are delights to behold.
Below is an example of a stand close to Camp Sherman, Oregon. The top image is the original as it came out of the camera. The second photo is the enhanced version.
I wanted to experiment with a sunburst in this image. The reddish bark is emphasized and not over done from what one sees when the sun is illuminating the Ponderosa.
I tweaked this image using Luminar AI. In this software is something called Landscape. With a small move of the Golden filter, one can easily enhance the yellows.

Lowell,
Which one did your eye see? Vs what you thought it saw? Can we recreate the dynamic range of the eye in an instant?

Robert,
My eye saw the second image or something between the two images. Depending on how the sun strikes the Ponderosa, it shows up as a bright reddish color. Back in the 1950s roads in the Sisters region used the red pumice to build the roads so the roads were also a rust color. It was quite a site to drive on roads that blended with the color of the bark on the trees.
