The Hawking Portfolio is, essentially, a Buy-And-Hold Portfolio designed to generate Income from investments in Closed End Funds (CEFs). This class of Funds were hit quite hard over the past month:
although the dividends generated by the Funds is still keeping portfolio returns ahead of the benchmark AOR Fund.
Being an Income Fund the only management action that is normally required is to re-invest dividends.
Current Holdings look like this:
projected to generate ~12% in annual income from dividends, well above my target limit of 8%, partially as a result of the recent weakness in the CEF space. But this means that there is good value available with many Funds paying high dividends and trading at discounts of over 10%.
I will probably use the Cash available from this month’s dividend payments to add another 120 shares of SPE to the portfolio.

David,
Why did you choose SPE to add dollars to? Of those you already own, it didn’t have the lowest amount invested in it, so you must have used something other criteria.

Jim,
With a $5k target allocation (to minimize trading costs) I based my decision on this:

NCZ, NMAI would be my next targets (assuming dividends/discounts remained the same)
